Most mobility products will need to be recycled once, whether it’s a new one or an old one.
To find out if your product is recyclable, you’ll need to ask the company or its recycling agency.
In many cases, it’ll have information on how much to pay, when it can be disposed of and if it can even be used.
The EPA does have a guide for recycling products that are currently being sold, but that’s not always the best way to find out what’s recyclables.
“You’ll probably have to ask around,” said John Ruggles, a senior director of waste management at the EPA’s Region 5 in Cincinnati.
“We don’t really have any guidance from the EPA on this.”
The most important thing to remember, Ruggens said, is that you should keep recyclability in mind.
“If it’s being sold as a recyclible product, the recycling company can be reimbursed for the cost of their equipment if they are able to provide a full-color photo of the product,” he said.
“In some cases, that might be in the form of a sticker.”
If you have questions about recycling, you can also contact your local recycling agency or the EPA.
